Wait and See

So someone is going to call me today about the Hampton job. Did I mention that I had a different interview for a different job? This one is in a library and back in public service again. It has several things going for it, but it also has several things going against it. I believe the salary will be the deal breaking point for me. I'm not looking to make a piddly little bit more. That is the mistake that people make. Just because I make a pitiful amount right now ($18,000/year), they think I would be happy about any increase in salary (say like to $25,000/year). But that is not the case. I am looking to double my salary or more. I have two bachelor's degrees. I am getting ready to shell out a lot of money for a master's degree. I want to be able to move out on my own. I have a lot of school debt already. I deserve to be comfortable and I will wait for the right opportunity.

They called and offered me only $26,000/year. I turned it down. See reasons above.

He told me that he didn't think I would find jobs offering more than that. I told him that I know public libraries pay more. Plus didn't he notice that I have a computer science degree?

I once heard a previous library director say that the library didn't have to pay that much for staff, because people like to say they work at the library. Somehow WE'RE LUCKY to be able to work at the library, and should take whatever they offer.

I think that's preposterous, though it seems to be a prevailing attitude.
